Yuliya Efimova set the new 50m breaststroke world record. Australia twice broke the world mark in the mixed relays

TOKYO - Russia's Yulia Yefimova set a new world 50 metres breaststroke record on Sunday, with a time of 28.71 seconds.

Efimova's record, set at the FINA World Cup meeting in Tokyo, topped the mark set by US swimmer Jessica Hardy in Berlin during the FINA tournament, four years ago.

The previous European record of 28.89 was held by Ruta Meilutyte (Moscow, World Cup, Ocotber 13).

Australia set a couple of new world marks in the medley relays.

Tommaso D'Orsogna, Travis Mahoney, Cate and Bronte Campbell won the 4x50 freestyle relay in 1:29.61 to beat the mark of 1:31.13 set in the morning's heats. The previous world best was set by Japan winning the final with 1:32.52 in Doha.

On Saturday, the team composed of Robert Hurley, Christian Sprenger, Alicia Coutts and Cate Campbell clocked 1:37.84 in the medley relay to better the former world record of 1:38.02 set by Australia in Singapore.
