Mediterranean Games, Oussama Mellouli shatters 1500m free African record

PESCARA – Oussama Mellouli of Tunisia led the way with a superb performance in winning the men’s 1500m freestyle in a new African record, at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara.

Mellouli, 25, won gold in 14:38.01secs and bettered his own record of 14:40.84 set at the Beijing Games.

On Monday Mellouli, set a new African record for the 400 individual medley winning in 4:10.53.

The previous mark was set by Riaan Schoeman's, winning the national title in 4:12.07 in Durban on April.
