Italian championships, Scarcella skims three seconds off 200 breast national mark

PESCARA – Teenager Ilaria Scarcella set a national record for the women’s 200 metres breaststroke, at the Italian championships in Pescara on Saturday.

Scarcella, won the final with a time of 2:23.63 seconds (splts: 32.59, 1.09.05, 1.45.90) more than three seconds faster than the mark set by Ombretta Plos at the national champs last March, when she swam 2:26.90 in Riccione.

Scarcella, 16, also holds the Italian recordfor the 100 breast.
