Simmonds breaks backstroke European mark in Singapore

SINGAPORE – Elizabeth Simmonds set a European record winning the women's 200 metres backstroke final at the Fina World Cup meet in Singapore, the final stage of the event.

Simmonds, 18, clocked a time of 2:01.48 and shaved shaved 0.53 seconds off her own previous mark set in the Swedish lap of the tournament.
