STOCKHOLM – Peter Marshall, Zige Liu, Jing Zhao and Therese Alshammar obliterated world records on Wednesday on another sensational night at Fina World Cup meet in Stockholm.
American swimmer Peter Marshall broke his own world record in the 50 metres backstroke. He clocked 22.73 seconds, 0.02 faster than the record he set in Durban last month.

China’s Zige Liu broke the 200 metres butterfly world record timing 2:02.50 seconds. This mark eclipsed the previous record of 2:03.12sec set by Japan’s Yuko Nakanishi in Tokyo last year.

Few minutes later, fellow-countrywoman Jing Zhao made another world record performance winning gold in the 100m individual medley with a new mark of 58.40 seconds, and lowered the previoius record set by Therese Alshammar of Sweden in Durban.

Finally, Therese Alshammar broke the world record in the women's 50m butterfly.
She clocked 24.46 seconds at the Stockholm event to beat her own mark of 24.75 set in Durban.

In the men’s 100 metres breaststroke, Igor Borysik won in a European record time of 57.21 to beat his mark of 57.33 set winning gold at the Europeans in Rijeka

Serbia's Nadja Higl touched home first to claim victory in the women's 200 metres breaststroke.
Higl, 22, swam 2:18.54 seconds to erase a 2-year-old European mark set by Yuliya Efimova at the 2007 European champs.
[Post meeting note: Higl surpassed Efimova's European record although Rikke Møller Pedersen of Denmark swam this event in 2:18.52 in Odense on October 24, 2009. This time is not yet ratified].
