DURBAN – Therese Alshammar of Sweden set a new world record in the 50 metres butterfly at the FINA world cup meet in Durban on Saturday.
Alshammar’s time of 24.75 seconds shaved 0.24 seconds off the old world mark set by Marieke Guehrer's in Berlin at last year’s stop of the circuit.

During yesterday’s finals, the 32-year-old from Solna, set also a new 100 metres butterfly European mark winning in 56.12 seconds.
The previous record was held by Diane Bui-Duyet of France, since she swam the event in 56.50 at La Réunion meeting last December.
