British Gas Grand Prix, Canada set 4x200 metres realy world record, Tancock set 50 backstroke European record

LEEDS – A couple of new short-course record were set at the British Grand Prix in Leeds on Friday.

In the men's 4x200m freestyle, team Canada shattered the old record by more than a second after completing their race in 6:51.05.

The previous record for this event was set by Australia with Kirk Palmer (1:43.12), Grant Hackett (1:42.75), Grant Brits (1:44.01) and Kenrick Monk in a global time of 6:52.66 set at the national championships, in Melbourne two years ago.

World Champion Liam Tancock set a new European mark of 23.10 in the men's 50 metres backstroke.

"I just missed that world record but I have improved on my best and that is what this week is all about for me," Tancock said. "It is a great meet, to come back after Rom and the huge success we had there, there is a real buzz about the place and it is driving us all on."

The world record for this event belongs to Randall Bal of USA in 22.87, set at a World cup meet in Belrin on November 2008.
