Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa reclaimed the men's 50 metres breaststroke world record in the semi-finals of the World championships. Markic and Feldwehr set European marks

ROME – Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa reclaimed the men's 50 metres breaststroke world record in the semi-finals of the World championships in Rome on Tuesday.

Van der Burgh swam 27.16 seconds to snatch the record back off Brazilian Felipe Alves Franca da Silva, who swam 26.89 in rio de Janeiro in May.

In the first semifinal Matjaz Markic of Slovenia set a new European standard of 27.16.

Few minutes later, in the second of the two races Germany’s Hendrik Feldwehr bettered the new mark touching in 26.83.
