Irie comes close to world record in 100 backstroke winning in 52.60, while 4 swimmers swam under 60-second barrier in the men's 100 breaststroke

BELGRADE - Ryosuke Irie won the 100 metres backstroke title in a Games record of 52.60 seconds at the World University Games in Belgrade, just 0.22 off the world record set by Spain’s Aschwin Wildeboer at the Mediterannean Games on Wednesday.

In the men’s 100 metres breaststroke four swimmers swam under 60-second barrier for the distance.

In this event Fabio Scozzoli has lowered his national record winning silver in 59.85, and becoming the first Italian to break the 1:00 mark.
