Veldhuis, Artemyeva swim to European Records

Dutch Marleen Veldhuis and Russian Valentina Artemyeva broke European records Sunday at swimming's short-course national championships.

In Amsterdam, Veldhuis clocked 51.74 seconds to lower the women's 100 metres freestyle short-course record of 51.91 that she set at last European championships in Rijeka in the morning heats.

Artemyeva finished in 29.67 seconds in the women's 50 metres breaststroke in Moscow yesterday, to break her own mark that she set twice at the European championships.
