Kitajima receives 58th GP Award

TOKYO - Two-time Olympic swimming gold medallist Kosuke Kitajima is the winner of the 58th Grand Prix of Japan Sport Award, The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper informed on Tuesday.

Kitajima, 26, won 100 and 200 metres breaststroke at this year’s Games in Beijing, and became the first swimmer even to win both events at consecutive Olympics.

He also holds the world record for both events.

The Grand Prix of Japan Sports Awards, who has been established in 1951 and is sponsored by The Yomiuri Shimbun, will be presented at a ceremony on January 2009.
