RIJEKA - Three more world records and five European marks fell at the European championships taking place in Rijeka, Croatia, on Friday.

Alessia Filippi has set a world record in the women's 800 metres freestyle. The Italian won in 8:04.53 seconds, easily beating the old mark of 8:08.00 set by Kate Ziegler of the United States a year ago in Essen, Germany.

The former European record of 8:08.25 was set by Rebecca Adlington of Great Britain last April at the Wolrd championships in Manchester.

France's Amaury Leveaux set his second world record in as many nights, this time in the semi-final of the 100 metres freestyle that he has led in 45.12, to better fellow-countryman Bernard’s mark by 0.57 sec.

The Netherlands has set a world record in the women's 200 freestyle relay.

The Dutch team of Hinkelien Schreuder, Inge Dekker, Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Marleen Veldhuis finished in 1:33.80 beating the mark set by another Dutch quartet at the last European championships in Debrecen.

Lubos Krizko of Slovakia set the European 50 metres backstroke record in a semi-final, clocking 23.15 with Aschwin Wildeboer of Spain on 23.22 and also under the old mark of 23.27 he shared for a day [since yesterday's 4x50 medley relay] with Germany’s Thomas Rupprath.

Igor Borysik of Ukraine broke the European record in the 100 metres breaststroke, setting a new mark of 57.33 seconds and shaved 0.34 off the previous mark held by fellow-countryman Oleg Lisogor.

Sanja Jovanovic of Croatia won gold in the 100 metres backstroke in a European record time of 56.87.

The former of 57.15 record was set by Ukraine’s Zubkova at last Wolrds in Manchester in April this year.

Milorad Cavic of Serbia broke the European record in the 100 metres butterfly after he won the event in 49.19, shaving 0.55 seconds off the previous record, which was set in November by Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia at a Fina World cup meet in Berlin.

Dutchwoman Hinkelien Schreuder won the women's 50 metres butterfly with a new European record time of 25.21. Schreuder's time was 0.10 faster than the previous record set by Therese Alshammar of Sweden at a Fina World cup meet in Stockholm a month ago.
