A world record and a new European mark were set during Sunday’s competition at the Arena World Cup in Moscow.

Cameron van der Burgh set a new world record for the men’s 100 metres breastroke in winning with the time of 56.88.

The former record was held by American Ed Moses in 57.47 since 2002.

The other record of the second day went to Valentina Artemyeva of Russia who smashed the 6-year-old limit of 29.96 set by Sweden’s Emma Igelstroem for the women’s 50m breaststroke, and won in 29.86.

Artemyeva, 22, also set a European record of 1:04.71 to win the 100m breaststroke on Saturday (the former mark of 1:04.95 was set by compatriot Yuliya Efimova at the SC Europeans in Debrecen Hungary, on December 16, 2007).
