MAGDEBURG – Britta Steffen has broken the European record record in the 100 metres freestyle at a swim meet in Magdeburg on Sunday.

Steffen (SG Neukölln Berlin) a former world record holder for this event, stopped the clock at 53.05 seconds last night to lower her mark of 53.20 that set in April at the German trials in Berlin.

Meantime, Steffen's training partner Rafed El-Masri (SG Neukölln Berlin) set a new national 50m freestyle record of 21.86 which is 0.25sec inside the standard that had been held by Steffen Deibler.
