BARCELONA - Therese Alshammar set a world record in the women's 50 metres butterfly at the second leg of the Mare Nostrum swim meet Wednesday in Barcelona, Spain.

Swede Alshammar was clocked at 25.46 seconds, surpassing the old record of 25.57 set by fellow-countrywoman Anna-Karin Kammerling at the European championships in Berlin, 2002.
