Swimimng New Zealand announced that Danyon Loader, a 1996 Olympic gold medallist in the 200 and 400 metres freestyle, signed a nine-month contract to assist swimmers involved in the development and high performance programmes.

Loader's first task is to help with NZ's preparations for the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
